DREAM PREPARATION

Incubation:

Choose an evening before a day that you don’t have any plans or appointments to keep or work to attend to in the morning. Prepare your sleep space by removing and turning off all electronic equipment. Make the space “sacred” if you are inclined to do so by whatever methods you have learned. Move the telephone into the other room. Turn off the cell phone and silence all other electronic equipment in your area.

It is important to choose a comfortable place to sleep but your bed is not recommended. It is also not recommended to lay your head on a pillow. If you have a dream pillow, keep it close by but not close enough that it will interfere with your sleeping. If you need the head support, then utilize a low pillow just at the base of the head. Try to stay on your back throughout your sleep incubation session. If that is uncomfortable, then choose a position that will allow you to fall asleep.

Shed the mundane before you start. Have a bath. Wear a comfortable but different article of clothing, not your normal comfy pyjamas. In the nude is good, but you must remember to stay warm. Keep a blanket at hand. If being in the nude is strange then it is not recommended. Utilize your dream bundle, if you have one or light some candles and incense but remember to put them out before you fall asleep.

Relaxed breathing and meditation is good. “Breathing is the direct link between body and spirit and when you adjust the breathing you increase the connection”. It is important to give your subconscious all the opportunity to manifest itself. You must leave as much of the mundane behind as you can. The Ancient Egyptians would fast and do complex rituals before a dream session but that is not recommended for the beginner. In the case of a beginner, ritual may bias the subconscious. For the purpose of trying to listen to what the subconscious is trying to tell you it is better not to cloud the message with too many recent memorable events.

If you can, wake your self up in about three hours after you have fallen sleep. Set an alarm that will not startle you but will allow for a slow awakening if you need assistance. It is very important to keep a pen and paper close by to write down every detail you can recall. Keep a copy of the Dream Questionnaire with you to help with what to write down. The more detailed notes you make the more memorable your dream will be when it comes time to revisit it.
